Joshua KYEOT is the fresh face and rising talent who will be joining us as part of our 1st birthday celebrations, this weekend. We sat him down for a chat to find out more about his music, his influences and what you can expect this Sunday, at Boxpark Croydon.

Tell us who you are and what you do?

My name is Joshua KYEOT and I’m a singer, songwriter and entertainer.

What can visitors expect from you at Boxpark Croydon’s 1st birthday event?

Primarily, good music and everything that comes with that – the goose bumps, the inspiration, the joy and happiness.

Who are some of your biggest influences in music?

I’ve always loved the music of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, as well as Sisqo!

Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your debut single ‘Only One’.

Basically, it’s a story about this girl that I met in a bar. I was working behind the bar and she was really cute, it was a private event and I was cleaning out the bar after everyone left, she stayed and we talked and hung out; just flirtatious stuff. It’s kind of just about that and how I only wanted one kiss before she took off. It went well; we dated after that ha-ha!

If you could collaborate with anyone in music, past or present, who would it be?

My idols Stevie and MJ would be right up there, but I’d also love to work with Prince, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, the list could go on and on; Adele, Shakka, Questlove, Rukhsana Merrise…

What does the rest of 2017 have in store for you?

The rest of 2017 is looking good. The plan is to work this record and, God-willing, I’ll be in the studio to line some things up for 2018. So, when 2018 comes around there’ll be new music, more gigs, more learning and building the momentum from everything I’ve built in 2017.

Finally, what was the last song you listened to?

Britney Spears – Oops I Did It Again
