Back in May this year, Art Friend presented ‘LeAF’ – a pop-up art gallery at BOXPARK Shoreditch selling affordable art and plants that are inclusive. Twenty-one artists showed their incredible printed and original artworks – all inspired by plants – in a space which was populated by over 100 affordable plants. Artists included local hero Real Hackney Dave, Drag Race superstar Charity Kase and cyanotypes extraordinaire Craig Keenan. It’s was more fun than the Chelsea Flower Show (and bonus: it wasn’t in Chelsea).

It all started when they were working on an exhibition a few years back a couple of friends came along with some work colleagues. One of their colleagues was fascinated by the art and the event and didn’t realise that things like this took place. They then realised not everyone has an Art Friend! They took it for granted that they knew where they could buy art or feel comfortable attending exhibitions and private views, and decided they wanted to reach those people without an art friend – so Art Friend was born. Art Friend is all about inclusivity, no stuffy gallery vibes, no admission fees, no art world jargon! Just like what you like as you don’t need to know anything about art to buy art! Art Friend wants to make everyone feel welcome in the art world and LeAF was our debut show doing just that.

At BOXPARK Shoreditch there were Super friendly vibes, cute plants, beautiful art and lots of happy people!
