Spotlight: Cabal.

A big night of quality house music is making its way to Boxpark Croydon later this month. We caught up with, co-founders, Kingsley, Matanza and Deano to find out more.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

KINGSLEY: We are Cabal. I'm Kingsely, founder and DJ.

MATANZA: And I'm Matanza, also a founder and DJ.

DEANO: I'm Deano, event promoter and social media manager.

How did Cabal come about?

KINGSLEY: Cabal Came about when myself and Matanza wanted to start a little party for friends two years ago. Our first event was at a friends basement space in Dalston.

MATANZA: We didn't feel that the sound we play was really in touch with the big parties we were being booked for, so we wanted to do something where we could express ourselves and play to the people that want to hear it.

DEANO: I had backed the boys from the beginning, but they officially welcomed me to the team last year to help with promotions and the social media side of things. Matanza gave me the nickname of 'social media Simon' years ago, not sure if that's a good or bad thing!

What can people expect from your event at Boxpark Croydon on Thursday 27 September?

MATANZA: They can expect a nice warm up. We pride ourselves on the structure of the party. Chunky bass ridden synth-y stab tracks.

KINGSLEY: Musically, people can expect rolling bass lines and groove ridden tracks. Real party music with a nice atmosphere for people to come to dance and let themselves go.

Who are some of your personal inspirations?

MATANZA: I think I speak for all of us when I say our main influence is Apollonia. The tracks they bring collectively in their sets are incredible, especially when they're playing outdoors!

KINGSLEY: Yeah we're all super fans of Apollonia. Most of our ideas for the party were discussed on the dance floors listening to Dan, Dyed and Shonky!

DEANO: Yeah Apollonia all day. I don't think any other act has influenced us more and they certainly throw the best party in London when they come together.

What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?

KINGSLEY: We're planning on getting all the gang together for an end of year party but also hopefully working with you guys at Boxpark again!

Who should everyone be listening to right now?

MATANZA: check our Mixcloud for mixes from us and some of our resident DJs!

KINGSLEY: For me it's gotta be Seb Zito. His productions are so on point but his DJ sets are even better. Really builds a good groove within his sets.

DEANO: Obviously the Cabal family. Mainstream for me personally, Kerri Chandler delivers each and every time. He's a professional in the game in every aspect, I know the boys will agree with me on that one

What was the last song you listened to?

KINGSLEY: No Rules - Dust on wax

MATANZA: Jaz- Rise

DEANO: Daniel Steinberg - Joy and Happiness

You can catch the boys at Cabal on Thursday 27 September at Boxpark Croydon. Be sure to follow them online on Facebook and Instagram.
