Spotlight: Decorum

10 Oct 17

Decorum is the final word in boutique home design, with their contemporary approach to vintage style and modern decor; they’re home invaders in the purest sense, and they’ve just celebrated their 3rd birthday at Boxpark Shoreditch. So, now seemed a good a time as any to sit down with Decorum’s owner and creator, Christina Karoulla, to find out more.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

My name is Christina and I am the Owner and Creative Director of Decorum.

What song best sums up your brand?

Comin’ Home Baby by Mel Torme. It sums up the excitement of returning home, to the familiar and comfortable, and we feel that our customers get that same feeling when they visit us.

Decorum has just turned 3. How did you celebrate?

We were fortunate enough to be part of The Shoreditch Design Triangle this year, which coincided with our 3rd Birthday at Boxpark. We had a full evening of flowing bubbly and special offers, and we also celebrated with a charity raffle in aid of Crisis

What is your favourite item that you currently have in stock?

Ah, that would be telling! I select everything and I love everything I select. If I am to have it in my own home then I will have it in my shop. If I don’t personally like it then I don’t buy it. It wouldn’t be fair to choose a favourite.

Which other Boxpark Shoreditch trader would you recommend to customers?

I guess the traders that share the same passion for their business as I do, the ones who work all hours of the day to make it work, Erin from Pärla and Noah and Matyas from The Gift Box; they’re in it for the right reasons, they have a love for what they do and what they sell. Also, their products are great!

What is your favourite thing about Shoreditch?

So much – the diversity, the creativity and the openness. Shoreditch has a real energy of its own. And of course I love the food!

Finally, what was the last song you listened to?

Green Light, from the album Melodrama by Lorde. It’s on our playlist at work.

Decorum is open 7 days a week at Boxpark Shoreditch and you can follow them online on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
