Spotlight: Fiona Hall

9 Oct 17

Your weekends just wouldn’t be the same without Boxpark Croydon’s legendary resident DJs spinning in the BoxBar. One such rising star is Fiona Hall, whose quick blend of top tracks and floor fillers has made her a firm favourite amongst partygoers. We sat Fiona down for a chat to find out more.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

My name is Fiona Hall and I am a full-time international DJ, host and event planner.

When did you realise that you wanted to be a DJ?

I thought about taking up DJ’ing many years ago but I actually started DJ’ing just a couple of years back. Procrastination is a dream killer!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My father was a DJ and a host for the best part of his younger years. He used to manage a Sound System called Moa Ambassa, which was really successful. I think having that as part of my upbringing probably had a lot to do with my career choices today.

You’ve DJ’d at a number of high profile venues and events – what have been some of your personal highlights so far?

My top three DJ’ing highlights I guess would be playing in Jamaica at a festival earlier this year. Jamaica is my favourite place on earth, so beautiful; the vibes, the food and the people are all amazing, so that was a really cool trip. Plus, Tony Matterhorn filmed me DJ’ing on his Facebook LIVE!. I also played at an all-white party on an open-air boat in Cancun in July of this year. The party started in the afternoon and continued until evening so the surroundings were so nice to look at – epic sunset! Also, a couple of weeks ago, I DJ’d for WAH Nails and Stefflon Don at a private event in Soho, which was also fun. Very intimate settings and good vibes!

Your sets at Boxpark Croydon always deliver but, for those who don’t know, tell us what visitors can expect from you in the BoxBar.

You can expect to see the DJ having as much fun as the ravers whilst I’m playing, ha ha! Sometimes I forget that I am working and end up having a party of my own on the stage. You’ll get a mix of club bangers, both old and new. I play a bit of everything!

What does the rest of 2017 have in store for you?

I am travelling to Turkey to DJ later this month, and then off to Dubai to play there a few weeks later. I’ll be at Boxpark Croydon and other club nights in the weeks to come, too. I’m also DJ’ing at a wedding and a couple of birthday parties in November, and then hosting the Showdown Silent Disco in December, so lots going on! I can’t wait!

Finally, what was the last song you listened to?

Mr Eazi – Leg Over. I made a new mix this week and it features this song, now I can’t stop playing it!
