Summer Workshops

5 Jun 17

Things are getting crafty this summer at Boxpark Shoreditch. Arts and crafty that is. Over the next two months, we're bringing you two fantastic workshops in partnership with two of the most creative brands in the country.

First up it's the Patch Customisation Workshop from The Makery. Founder Kate believes that there's nothing quite like the sweet satisfaction of learning a new skill and crafting something original and unique; and so, in 2008 she set about creating an accessible and relevant craft brand for people of all abilities to enjoy. That brand has since gone on to teach over 80,000 people the joy of crafting through workshops, parties and events.

When The Makery aren't cultivating events alongside the likes of Warner Brothers, W Hotels and Stylist, they're selling materials and blogging through their website, whilst also working to create a resourceful and sustainable creative ethos. The brand aims to help creative people see the potential in the simplest of household items and fabrics and breathe new life into them.

Their patch workshop on 20 June, at Boxpark Shoreditch, is set to be a surefire hit. You're encouraged to come along with your own jeans, jackets, tops etc and develop your embroidery skills as you set about creating a personal patch and your own signature style.

In July, we're proud to welcome The London Loom to Boxpark Shoreditch for a tapestry workshop that will inspire you to get as colourful and experimental as you can possibly imagine.

The London Loom was brought to life by Francesca Kletz and Brooke Dennis. These ladies honed their skills and passion for tapestry and weaving in very different parts of the globe. While visiting her sister Zara in Japan, Francesca discovered a small community weaving studio in Kichijoji; she took one afternoon beginners class and fell in love with the freedom and calm of the Japanese freestyle weaving process. Without anywhere to practice in London, Francesca trained to teach at a Japanese weaving studio in New York and decided to come home and open The London Loom. And Brooke closed her small sewing studio in New Zealand in 2013 to move to London with her husband and two children. In London Brooke discovered the art of weaving and bought her first loom.

There's clearly a lot to learn from Francesca and Brooke, so if you'd like to book your place at the Tapestry Workshop on 4 July head to The London Loom's ticket page!
