UNiDAYS Exhibition

28 Feb 18

On Thursday 1 March, you’re invited to come down and eat, drink and play, as we kick off March with some kick-ass student discounts. There will also be the opportunity to sample the winning images from this year’s UNiDAYS photography competition, as the final pieces get plastered onto the walls of our upper decking. We sat down with UNiDAYS marketing wiz, Helen Gartland, to find out more.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

Helen Gartland and I am the Event Marketing Executive at UNiDAYS.

How did the idea for the UNiDAYS exhibition come about?

At UNiDAYS, we believe in students, their talent is the future and they deserve a voice. We want to give our members unique opportunities to gain some valuable life experiences, whether that’s internships, volunteering challenges or creative competitions and opportunities, like this one. We challenged students to take a leap, get creative and give themselves a head start in the industry they’re truly passionate about. When we visited Boxpark Shoreditch and saw the gallery space we knew this would be a great opportunity for our members.

You must have received some strong submissions for the competition, was it hard to select the final images?

We received some truly incredible submissions, our members are really talented. Selecting the top 7 and then shortlisting a further 21 was hard but I’m positive we made the right choices.

Do the final images display the spectrum of student life today?

The selection of images you will see in the exhibition demonstrate such a wide variety of student experiences, it was great to see such a diverse selection of submissions, showing just how different every students experience can be.

Aside from having their work displayed at Boxpark Shoreditch throughout March, what else will the photography winners receive?

The top 7 winners will receive a Cannon camera, and we will be profiling them across our blog The Edit

Tell us about the launch event on 1 March.

UNiDAYS is partnering with Boxpark to bring an evening of food, beverages, music and retailer discounts. This event is for anyone, so whether you’re entering the UNiDAYS Student Photography Competition or not, pop down—it’s gonna be fun!

What song would you say sums up the spirit of this exhibition?

Not a song, but it would be the Spotify ‘Who We Be‘ playlist. A diverse mix with individual, unique sounds but a common theme of representing the here and now.

The UNiDAYS exhibition is available to view throughout March at Boxpark Shoreditch.
